| King George the Third, 1760 to 1820, had the unhappy knack
of making decisions that turned out contrary to the interests of the
country. Even worse, his was one of the longest reigns, with more
opportunity to do harm than we might have hoped.
Despite his stubbornness over the American Colonies, the Lord North ministry and his refusal to remove the residual penalties from catholics, he managed to begin his reign with victory over the French and end it in a similar vein. George also showed much interest in improving the agriculture of England and was a keen amateur scientist.
