| A 17th century battle in the
chancery courts which lasted for more than 24 years.
The two sides to the argument began with two gentlemen who seemed to have a reasonable chance to resolve their differences. When they both were dead their wives took up the cudgels. Margaret Bancroft would prefer jail rather than lose the argument. Katherine Pettus, a tenacious plaintiff, would never give up her claim - especially since it appeared justified. The story - mostly played out with the background of the civil war - is broken down into nine sections. |
