Swavesey: mediaeval church carvings

Inside the Church of St Andrew, one is immediately amazed and delighted by the 120 or so 'Poppy Head' bench ends: a superb carved wood collection of real and fabulous beasts. Some date from the 15th century; others are careful 19th century copies of the originals. Amongst other interests is an elaborate memorial to Anne Kemp, Lady Cutt, with detailed genealogical tablets on either side. Before the church, there was a Benedictine Priory here, scant remains of which can be seen in 'five acre' field to the north of the church.
